Monica Wellmann, director of the business unit digital at technology and information provider MVB, is one of two new faces on the board of the International ISBN Agency (IIA). In an unscheduled election in the autumn, the representative from Germany, together with the Spaniard José Manuel Anta, prevailed against a total of four other candidates. This means that the eight-member management team is now complete again following the departure of two directors in the summer for professional reasons. The term of office is two years and will complete just before the IIA's Annual General Meeting in autumn 2026.

The IIA promotes and coordinates the worldwide use of the ISBN system. It is responsible for the further development of the rules and regulations for the worldwide allocation of ISBNs, advises national ISBN agencies and, if necessary, appoints new ISBN agencies to allocate ISBNs.

Monica Wellmann explains: "A book without an ISBN is like Alice without Wonderland. Worldwide, the standard is the backbone of successful digital book marketing. It is therefore a great honour for me to be able to support the continuation of this success story on the board of the International ISBN Agency. I am very much looking forward to working with my new colleagues."

Since 2008, marketing and sales expert Monica Wellmann has been working at MVB, where she took over as director of the business unit digital in 2022. She is responsible for the operation and further development of the technology and information provider's platforms. These give orientation in the book market and enable efficient processes between publishers and booksellers. These include the metadata database Verzeichnis Lieferbarer Bücher (VLB) and VLB-TIX, the marketing platform for new releases. The management of the German ISBN Agency is also one of Monica Wellmann’s tasks.
