Terms and Conditions

Conditions for Using the ISNI Registration Service

1) Contractual Relationship

When you order an ISNI, you are commissioning MVB GmbH (MVB) to handle the registration, i.e., the application for an ISNI through the international ISNI registration agency, “ISNI International Agency Ltd (ISNI-IA).”

By submitting the order form, you are making an offer to register for an ISNI under the following terms and conditions.

The assignment of the ISNI by ISNI-IA occurs through either the issuance of a new ISNI or by linking the registration data to an already existing ISNI.

If you are a consumer (§ 13 of the German Civil Code, BGB), you also agree, upon making the offer, to the immediate execution of the contract without the option to revoke it.

MVB accepts this offer by submitting the ISNI application to ISNI-IA. The result will be displayed immediately on the registration website and sent to the email address you provided to MVB. If the registration data you provide is insufficient, no ISNI will be issued, nor can a link to an existing ISNI be made. In such cases, you have the opportunity to update the registration data within the same request and resubmit it.

2) Applicant

You agree to apply for an ISNI only for yourself. If you apply on behalf of another person or organization, you must be authorized to do so.

3) Accurate Information

You agree to provide only accurate information during the application process and beyond.

4) Fee

A fee of €4.20 plus VAT is charged for the successful assignment of an ISNI per individual registration. Payment can be made via credit card or PayPal; the applicant must provide payment information before submitting the application.

5) Data Protection

If you are applying for an ISNI on behalf of someone else, ensure that you are authorized to do so, including making the required disclosures.

For successful registration in the international ISNI database, a name, at least one publication, and typically another identifying characteristic are required for the person or organisation being registered. Additional identifying details can include biographical data, websites, supplementary identification numbers, relationships with other persons, etc.

An ISNI results in the provided information being publicly accessible via the international ISNI database and other linked databases, allowing the associated person or organization to be publicly identified with these details. Further information on this can be found here.

The legal basis for data processing is Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR.

How is personal data processed?

Data collection is carried out by MVB. The data, along with the applicant’s email address necessary for contract processing, is stored by MVB. The entered data, except for the applicant's email address, is forwarded to the international ISNI agency (ISNI-IA), which links it with any existing public data and assigns the ISNI. ISNI and its associated metadata can be accessed and displayed by anyone through a search interface on MVB's website.

Personal data marked as confidential is not disclosed by ISNI-IA but stored in a separate database at the international agency, where it may be used internally to uniquely identify a person in cases of doubt.

Affected persons and organisations can request the modification, removal, or deletion of their data from the databases managed by ISNI-IA.

You can find ISNI-IA's data protection information here.
